After a season of inconsistent effort, inexplicable losses & injuries, the Warriors open the only season they care about on Saturday afternoon against their old friend the Spurs.

Steph is hurt and Kawhi is maybe hurt or maybe unhappy or maybe something? So it’s not the marquee Conference Final matchup it was last year, but it still should be better than your typical 2-7 series.

The Spurs, even without Kawhi, are still more or less the Spurs. They have the eighth-best point differential in the league and the third-best defense. They aren’t a typical 7 seed that’s just hoping to win a game or 2.

And the Warriors, without Steph, aren’t the Warriors. They have a 17-14 record without him. Are they a team that was biding its time or a team that has fundamental problems without him?

Quinn Cook and Kyle Anderson are going to have to play big minutes in a playoff series. Neither of these teams saw that coming when the season started.

One of these teams is going to have a long series and a long offseason.
