Jamal Crawford scored 50 points.

How many real Warriors fans truly care?

I would’ve rather seen Marco Belinelli build on his career high and score 30 or witnessed Brandon Wright tough out a rough first quarter than see some former never-was drop 50 on one of the three or four teams worse than his own. This is exactly what I’m talking about. Crawford can score 50 points on the meekest opponent then shoot 1-15 against a team that matters.

Here’s a great quote from Gerald Wallace regarding tonight’s game: “Basically you’ve got a guy out there with his confidence as high as the sky and he’s only playing one end,” Wallace said of Crawford. “He’s only playing offense, so what can you say?”

Uhhhh…that sounds like he’s earnerd some respect over the years.

And a quote from Crawford himself: “I feel like I can pretty much get any shot I want,” Crawford said. “I let people off the hook by settling for jump shots.”

What a prince. What a great guy.

He fully admits he doesn’t go for the kill. He lets guys “off the hook”.

Sorry, but I don’t want my team’s best players to let the other team off the hook. I want them to do what it takes to win. Slit the other team’s throats. Pull a Mike Tyson and eat their children (with dignity and sportsmanship, of course). C’mon!

The guy is lazy and just floats from team to team doing what he can when he feels like it. He knows what his “problem” is, the thing that keeps him from realizing his potential, and yet nothing changes. He’s been doing this throughout his whole career, except now people don’t bat an eyelash or raise an eyebrow at one of his random, unexpected power surges. Great, you dropped 50 on the Charlotte Bobcats. Now, let’s see you do it on the Lakers, Cavs, Celtics or Spurs.

Whoop dee doo. I’d rather watch Belinelli run the point.

Wake me when it’s over.

I understand that the Warriors had to let go of someone today to make room for Monta Ellis’ symbolic return from the suspended list and that the consensus opinion on all the blogs I’d read said that Richard Hendrix was the most likely candidate because of his relatively cheap non-guaranteed 2nd round contract. However, I honestly believe the team will regret seeing this young guy come back and snap Brandan Wright’s neck (if he’s even still around at that point) on a two-handed put-back dunk.

Yes, we do have Ronny Turiaf to fill in the paint with more force, and yes, since Don Nelson has signed on to coach for a couple more years, it is unlikely Hendrix would’ve ever seen any playing time at all. Nevertheless, after everyone referred to Hendrix as a Paul Millsap-type player, it’s unfortunate that he never got a chance to play for us in the big leagues after going 13 and 10 in the D’s. Thirteen and 10 in the minors shouldn’t have gotten anyone overly excited, but at least it showed effort. He wouldn’t have been a star, but he would’ve done all the blue-collar stuff that would’ve endeared him to fans and his teammates.

It feels like the Warriors simply tossed a Christmas present into the recycler before it was even opened and instead held onto one that was roughly shaped like Marcus Williams.

According to this hoopsworld.com post I just saw on Marcus Thompson’s blog, Corey Maggette’s going to be out for a while longer with a small hamstring tear.

After he and Baron essentially swapped uniforms, I’ve had a running bet with a friend on which one of these hired guns would get hurt first. Looks like I was wrong, and I owe him a steak dinner (Sizzler anyone?). Our 29 year-old swingman appears to have made the first pit-stop. With the Warriors looking pretty abysmal as it is, I can’t say that I’m all that upset/disappointed by this news. I really do NOT enjoy watching Corey play. His game is boring and predictable. He has no flair for the dramatic. Sure he can dunk reasonably well (though unimaginatively), and he shoots a lot of free throws, but he lacks the intangibles, that something-else-that-brings-you-to-the-arena that really captures a sports fan’s imagination.

Sports is about hope and potential. The hope of an improbable upset or a charmed playoff run. The potential of a young high-flyer leading even younger high-flyers to the promised land. That’s why we’re fans. Not to see Magettee and Jamal Crawford do all the things they’ve done throughout their long careers to get people falsely excited, only to cruelly disappoint them soon after.

No doubt the ramifications of Maggette’s new, bad contract will put our favorite Oakland team in a dangerous position. It will require both Chris Mullin’s eventual replacement and Robert Rowell’s ego to do some creative accounting and intense finger-crossing. It will be the albatross around the Warriors’ neck. It will suck.

But at least this means, for a while, we’ll be seeing a lot more of the younger guys out there.

I never wish injury upon any player, but I look forward to watching the young W’s consistently amaze and frustrate on consecutive plays as their potential manifests itself to the highest and lowest degrees.
